Mayoral Message | September Celebrations

September was a month filled with fun, colour and movement across our City.

02 Oct 2025

It was wonderful to see our City come alive with festivals, films, food and community spirit.

We welcomed the Love Earlwood – Meet You at the Plateia Festival, Sydney’s newest community celebration, which transformed the heart of Earlwood into a Mediterranean feast of food, music and dance.

With almost 10,000 attendees and over 30 stallholders, it was a true showcase of our multicultural community and the talent, energy and joy that makes Canterbury-Bankstown so vibrant.

The Lebanese Film Festival returned to our City once again, shining a spotlight on world-class filmmakers and sharing stories that connect cultures and generations.

This significant cultural event reflects the strength of our Lebanese community, while drawing visitors and film lovers from across Australia and beyond.

And of course, Blue & White Week painted our City in colour, passion and pride as businesses, schools and families joined together to support the Bulldogs.

Even though the boys fell short on the field, the unity and spirit displayed in classrooms, shopfronts and front yards reminded us what community pride is all about.

We also reopened Greenacre Splash Park just in time for the school holidays and warmer months ahead.

Having families and children enjoying the water once again is a reminder of how important these spaces are for connection, health and wellbeing.

As we look ahead, I’m excited to see our City continue to thrive with colour, excitement and community spirit.

Regards,

Clr Bilal El-Hayek
